🎗️Cancer Rehabilitation: Support During and After Treatment

Recovering Well, Living Fully After a Cancer Diagnosis

In Canada, 1 in 2 people will be diagnosed with cancer during their lifetime. While survival rates are improving, the physical and emotional impact of cancer and its treatments often remains long after remission. Cancer and its treatments, including chemotherapy, radiation, and surgery, can cause significant neurological side effects. These include disorders such as peripheral neuropathy, foot drop, cognitive impairments often called “chemo brain,” muscle weakness, as well as difficulties with balance and coordination. These effects can impact mobility, quality of life, and patient independence. Specialized neurological rehabilitation is essential to alleviate symptoms, improve motor and sensory functions, and promote better overall recovery.

🩺 Managing Lymphedema After Cancer

cancer - neuro-concept

Lymphedema is a common side effect after cancer treatment, especially when lymph nodes have been removed or irradiated. It results from poor lymphatic drainage, causing persistent swelling in a limb (usually the arm or leg).

💡 Our massage therapists and physiotherapy team provides :

  • Manual lymphatic drainage
  • Therapeutic exercises
  • Education and councelling

These methods help reduce swelling, prevent complications, and improve limb mobility.

🔌 Peripheral Neuropathy and Axillary Web Syndrome (Cording)

Cancer treatments like chemotherapy or surgery can lead to nerve damage (neuropathy) or axillary cording, both of which can restrict mobility and cause discomfort.

👩‍⚕️ Our physiotherapists use targeted interventions to reduce pain, improve sensation, and restore your range of motion and functional independence.

🧘‍♀️ Combating Fatigue, Stress, and Loss of Physical Endurance

Cancer-related fatigue is one of the most common and debilitating symptoms—often unrelieved by rest alone. Combined with emotional stress and treatment side effects, it can lead to physical deconditioning.

At Neuro-Concept, we support your recovery with a whole-person approach:

Individual or group exercise sessions supervised by certified kinesiologists
Energy management strategies to help balance activity and rest
Therapeutic massage to reduce tension and promote relaxation
Education for healthy lifestyle changes that support recovery
